Elia Authentic Greek Taverna has been attracting fans for some time, but even more so since moving to a more user-friendly location. One fan is Donald Contursi, president of Lip Smacking Foodie Tours, who said Elia “serves up Mediterranean sunshine on a plate by showcasing fresh ingredients in simple, satisfying and unfussy Greek dishes full of flavor.” Warm service, he said, helps make it “a gem of a neighborhood restaurant.”

Greek favorites like avgolemono and souvlaki are available, but this menu is filled with many more dishes that aren’t standards in American Greek restaurants. Those include psita htenia, which is pan-seared scallops with radish sprouts; lavraki, which is whole grilled Mediterranean sea bass; and garidomakaronada, spaghetti with shrimp, tomato sauce and feta.

Keep it simple with a starter of feta and house olives, or sample one of the restaurant’s house-made spreads, such as tzatziki, tyrokafteri or taramosalata.
