Bagel Café

$ $

When Bagel Café opened its original location in 1996, the surrounding area was little more than desert and new construction. But New York transplants Savvas and Shari Andrews saw the potential in the up-and-coming neighborhood as a place to bring an authentic family-owned New York deli to the southwest. So, slightly ahead of their time, they opened this café.

Still owned and operated by the family, anyone who loves all things deli will be in heaven as they inhale the aromas of bagels baking, soups simmering and fresh coffee brewing. Hand-sliced smoked fish is flown in weekly from New York. Fresh roasted turkey on the bone, corned beef and roast beef are piled high on sandwiches. And homemade cookies and cakes satisfy any sweet tooth. But nothing compares to a “bagel and a schmear,” offered with 21 varieties of bagel and a dozen schmears from which to choose.
