Picanha Steak Restaurant

This affordable, counter-service spot on the emerging foodie South Rainbow foodie corridor was a popular choice among the Neon Feast contributors -- including food blogger Philip Tzeng, who calls it an “excellent” choice for Brazilian food, and says “the surf and turf speaks to me, especially when hungover.”

The super-casual Picanha is all about meat, meat and more meat, although you have a choice as to how it’s delivered. You can get plates of picanha steak (that’s a buttery cut that comes from the steer’s rump) with sausage or get the meat in a surf and turf meal, with shrimp and fried rice, as braised short ribs with mashed potatoes, on a sandwich, or even in mac and cheese. Chicken or combo sandwiches are also available. And taco varieties include picanha, short rib, pork belly or the trio.

Sides are numerous and include fried yucca, garlic mushrooms and arepitas (cornmeal fritters), along with the customary French fries, grilled veggies or mac and cheese. Picanha Steak also offers a kids’ menu and lunch specials.
